COURSE: HOW TO WORK THE GEOGRAPHIC DATA IN THE FIELD OF RESEARCH
The course is an approach to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) by introducing the basic concepts which could be applied in the field of research, in this case using the open source gvSIG. It is a course, organized by the SIGTE, which will be held in March 2011 at the University of Girona.
Geographic information is a strategic element in today's society. Most data that we use daily are spatial. This is also in the field of research where geo-information plays an important role. The analysis of the data and its representation in maps allows us to understand how data behave spatially, and even establish possible relationships between different variables.
This course should enable students to:
- Understanding the data sources, acquiring, loading and displaying in a GIS - Relate alphanumeric data and combine them with own data - Transform the data to display analiyzable aspects - Display space variables on a cartographic database
