THE ADANA METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY (TURKEY) HAS VISITED THE SIGTE

A commission of the AMM (on the Turkish strip of the Mediterranean) has been staying for two weeks at the SIGTE in order to seek advice on the implementation of a corporate GIS.

In the framework of the Leonardo da Vinci programme for the mobility of professionals and knowledge transference, financed by the European Commission, the GIS and remote sensing Service(SIGTE) of the University of Girona welcomed 7 representatives of the Adana Metropolitan Municipality of Turkey last November. The reason for the visit was to see first-hand Catalan experiences in the implementation of GIS projects, as well as to receive theoretical training in order to carry out, with a guarantee of success, the implementation of a GIS in the metropolitan area of Adana, which has nearly 1.5 million inhabitants.

In the framework of the stay, visits were made by the following:

- The Municipal Department of Land Analysis ( Unitat Municipal d’Anàlisi Territorial -UMAT) of the city council of Girona
- The Municipal Information Institute of the city council of Barcelona
- Technical services of the Waterworks of Girona, Salt and Sarrià
- GIS Service of the town council of Figueres
- Institute of Cartography of Catalonia (ICC)
