SIGTE becomes a tester for the gvSIG project
In recent years GIS open source software has become more and more popular. It offers interesting alternatives to commercial software not only in terms of cost but also because it allows access to the source code to modify, edit, improve and adapt it according to user needs.
Until now SIGTE has promoted the use and development of GIS open source software mainly through the projects it carries out, and also through the well established annual Jornades de SIG Lliure (GIS Open Source Conference) that it organises.
But now our involvement in the promotion and development of GIS open source software goes one step further as we become testers for the gvSIG project.
gvSIG is a tool to handle geographic information characterised by a user friendly interface which is able to access the most used formats quickly and easily. The project was set up by the Infrastructures and Transport Department of the Government of Valencia and has generated a lot of international interest.
As testers SIGTE is involved in detecting errors and suggesting improvements in both form and substance to contribute to the development of the gvSIG.
