Leonardo da Vinci Programme “Quality in Mobility” Awards 2008

The SIGTE project "Transferencia de conocimiento en la práctica formativa de los SIG (GI-TRANSFER)" (“Knowledge transfer in GIS training (GI-TRANSFER)”), was nominated for the award in the Teachers and trainers category, having met the assessment criteria established by the European Commission and a group of experts from different national agencies.

The Leonardo da Vinci Programme “Quality in Mobility” Awards recognise project quality, in terms of the results, products and benefits obtained and the overall management of the process. The main objective goal of these awards is to publicise project results and establish criteria to identify good products and improve quality.

The principal aim of the GI-TRANSFER project for which SIGTE was nominated was to identify, adquire and transfer knowledge of opportunities for career advancement at the European level in new fields related to Geographic Information Systems.

Participating in the project were SIGTE members and collaborators and five organisations hosted by SIGTE (Centre of Geoinformatics de la University of Salzburg (Austria), Spatial Information Laboratory of the Free University of Amsterdam (The Netherlands), INFORM SL (Italy), Coastal and Marine Resources Centre (CMRC) of the National University of Ireland (Cork, Ireland), GIS Institute de la University of Gavle (Sweden). Generally speaking, the experience has allowed participants to establish contact with organisations in the same sector that have other dynamics, methods and projects, to acquire in-depth knowledge of various areas in which GIS technology is applied, and to become familiar with social and cultural environments other than their own.
