Course Team

Dr. ERWAN BOCHER – Institute for Research on Urban Sciences and Techniques
Has obtained a Master degree in remote sensing and environmental planning. He was working during 3 years in a French public authority about water resources management and protection. In 2005, he obtains a PhD in Geography at University Rennes II. Since 2006 he is the leader of OrbisGIS project, an open source GIS, developed at IRSTV institute. His research activities are focused on spatial analysis, knowledge sharing and simulation for sustainable development, especially in the urban context. He is professor in GIS in the MASTER STEAU leaded by Ecole Centrale de Nantes.

PROFESSOR ARI JOLMA - Aalto University

Professor of environmental planning and management informatics, formerly geoinformatics, at the Helsinki University of Technology.  Professor Jolma has developed several courses and has taught at the university on the level of professor since 1995. Professor Jolma leads research projects and publishes in the field of environmental informatics, frequently consults international agencies, and leads the development of a free software project for geospatial and environmental research and management.

DR GOBE HOBONA – University of Nottingham
Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Centre for Geospatial Science in the University of Nottingham. His research focuses on the application of web-based geospatial technologies in international spatial data infrastructures and earth observation systems. He is a  work package leader on the e-ContentPlus GIS4EU project. He was previously Project Manager of the AGILE-EuroSDR-OGC Persistent Testbed for Europe. He is a consultant for the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) on the GEOSS, INSPIRE, GMES Action in Support (GIGAS) project. He is also an active participant in the Workflow Working Group of the GEOSS Architecture Implementation Pilot project.

JEREMY MORLEY – University of Nottingham
Jeremy is the Deputy Director of Centre for Geospatial Science at University of Nottingham. Previously  he was  at  UCL's Dept. Geomatic Engineering as a Senior Lecturer in Geographic Information Systems and Course Director and Tutor for the University of London M.Sc. in Geographic Information Science.

DR SUCHITH ANAND - University of Nottingham
Ordenance Survey Research Fellow at the Centre for Geospatial Science, University of Nottingham. Key research interests are in location based services, geohydroinformatics and optimization techniques. He is the chair of the ICA Working Group on Open Source Geospatial Technologies and the chair of the  Open Source GIS UK (OSGIS) Conference series.

PROFESSOR MIKE JACKSON – University of Nottingham
Director of the Center for Geo-spatial Science, University of Nottingham. He is a non-executive director of the Open Geo-spatial Consortium Inc (OGC) and of OGC Europe. Prof Jackson has published over 40 papers and is a frequent invited speaker at industry conferences. He was project lead for the Laser-Scan contribution to the highly successful EU funded AGENT project on generalisation. (Laser-Scan, now 1Spatial, was overall project-leader and have subsequently commercialised the generalisation software which is in use by a number of national mapping agencies.)

GWENDALL PETIT – Institute for Research on Urban Science and Techniques
Ingeneer in geography and geomatic at the University of Rennes II (2007). He's working in the GIS team of IRSTV Institute. He's leading the training and support of the open-source GIS software, OrbisGIS. His main speciality is about spatial analysis for urban sustainable development.

FERRAN ORDUÑA – University of Girona
Graduated in Geography in 1993, has specialized in GIS since 1994. Is currently Training Projects Manager at the GIS Center of the University of Girona. Has been visiting professor in several seminars and short courses in GIS at the University of Girona, the Politechnic University of Catalonia and the Universidad de Matanzas, Cuba. Is co-author of several articles in specialized GIS conferences and is also engaged in the development of distance learning materials in GIS.

LLUÍS VICENS – University of Girona
Graduated in Geography, has specialized in GIS since 2001. Is currently staff member of GIS Technical Projects at the GIS Center of the University of Girona, and co-responsible for technical assessment in GIS application projects and training activities.
Has been visiting professor in several seminars and short courses in GIS at the University of Girona, the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, the Mendel University of Agriculture and Forestry in Brno, Czech Republic, Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México in Toluca, México. Is co-author of several articles in specialized GIS conferences and is also engaged in the development of distance learning materials in GIS. Is  co-responsible in the collaboration of the SDI development for the universities of Catalonia, in Spain (UNIVERS Project).  He is also organiser of the Open Source GIS Conference (Jornadas de SIG libre) in Spain.

JOSEP SITJAR – University of Girona

Graduated in Geography at the University of Girona (2007) he’s enrolled in the ‘Master in Environmental and Spatial Planning’ at the same University.  
He’s working in SIGTE since 2007, where has been editing contents in the framework of the Master UNIGIS. Teacher in many courses about GIS, and he’s also tutor of ‘Introduction to GIS’ in the Master UNIGIS –University of Girona-.
