Welcome to Girona Summer School 2012: Open Web Map Services and Web Mapping!

The GIS and Remote Sensing Centre of the University of Girona, the Nottingham Geospatial Institute of the University of Nottingham and OpenGeo welcome you to the Third Open Source GIS Summer School, which will be focused on the development and creation of Open Web Mapping Services and Web applications.

The GIS Open Source Summer School of Girona is an initiative aimed to meet the GIS professional demands related to free and open solutions, and we are working in this vision from the start. As a result, the third Summer School will have the contribution of OpenGeo, industry leader in geospatial technology based on free software (FOSS) and recognized worldwide as one of the largest contributors to its promotion and development, in addition to the usual and necessary participation of the University of Nottingham, as experts in OWS.

If you are interested in application development and creation of web map services using the most widely used free market products such as PostGIS, GeoServer, OpenLayers, then this is the opportunity.

And beyond the strict quality and technical level of the programme, there is the charm of the historic city of Girona and the magnificent Old Town and its wide range of cultural, musical and culinary offer. The Costa Brava, the Pyrenees and Barcelona less than an hour and an airport (10 km from Girona) with connections to nearly 60 destinations around Europe.

Note the hospitality that has always distinguished the organization team, recognized in each of the initiatives that we undertake. From the first day you will be accompanied in a familiar environment: enjoying a guided tour of the city, a dinner for Catalan cuisine, ...

The summer school builds upon the success of previous initiatives. We look forward to welcoming you to the Open Source GIS Summer School 2012
